Jean Luc Ponty 1985
In
September of 85 I got a call from Scott Henderson who I knew from Musicians
Institute. Gary Willis had just left the Jean Luc Ponty gig to play
with Wayne Shorter and Ponty needed someone for the Fables tour leaving
for Brazil (where we'd also play all the old material) in 10 days. This
was a real fun band. In addition to Scott on guitar, we had Sonny Emory
on drums (just before he joined Earth Wind and Fire) and Walter Afanasieff
(I think his last tour before becoming the biggest selling record producer
of all time) on keys. The following July, Ponty dicked me out of a tour
he’d already hired me for when Sonny left the band a few days before
rehearsals started. Get it in writing.
